0045 What A Slacker

Sorry folks, I’ve been a little distracted lately and my schedule for updating the comic kind of fell apart. Taking time off kind of hurt the rhythm of working on it regularly, but thank you for bearing with me!

Getting Ready for Round 3

I’ve been getting some messages from folks wondering what’s going on- am I ever going to start this up again, or what?

Well, yes. And no. And sort of.

I don’t think I want to do a regular comic until I have an idea for a story, and I don’t like forcing out lame jokes in the eleventh hour before a comic is supposed to go up. But I like these characters, and I like the world (you guys have hardly seen any of it yet!), so what I’m going to do is post a nice illustration once a week; the kind of thing you would find in an art book. And when I can come up with an interesting comic story, I can work on it, and post that instead of the art when it’s done. I think this’ll be more sustainable for me, and more interesting for you.

I think I’ll be ready to roll with the new stuff by the end of April. Okay, so it’s May now, and I’m still not ready. But I’m working on it. Please check back soon, or subscribe to the RSS feed so you can start getting the Snoogle Goodness as soon as it starts!

I’ve been Slacking - New Comic Tonight

That’s the long and short of it- I’ve been a slacker, distracted by life and stuff, and will be posting the comic late tonight.

I miss having a buffer. I’ll have to work on that some…

Two More Days… and a Suki Neko Drawings

sukiI’m getting geared up for Tuesday, when we start posting comics regularly. I was just going through some folders with sketches and I found this little doodle of Suki Neko, so I thought I’d share, to take the edge off between now and Tuesday. I think I may have done this shortly after I discovered One Swoop Fell, due to the thickness of the lines.

Thought you guys might enjoy it!

Six Days to Relaunch!

Comics will resume Tuesday February 3rd on a Tuesday-Friday schedule.

Oh? Sweet! How’s that buffer looking, Veronica?

Quiet, you!

Nothing much to report other than that. I don’t want to give anything away, because I think it’ll be more fun if I don’t sit here trying to explain what I’m going to do. Just know that with this go-round, now that I’ve established that I can post reliably on a schedule, my focus will be on craftsmanship and good drawing. That’s why I’m dropping the update schedule to two days a week instead of three, so I have more time to work on each episode.

Alright, then! See you guys on Tuesday!

As Comic #40 Approaches, Plans are Made

I’ve decided that I’m going to take a story break from the comic from after Christmas through the month of January in order to tighten up things a bit around here. I started SnoogleZoo sort of haphazardly and now that I’m getting close to 40 comics I’m realizing how doing this with no plan is pretty much unfeasable for me. Brad and I are going to sit down and do some more sessions, and I’m going to work on solidifying the characters’ designs, and maybe play around with some styles.

We’ve also been talking about what else we can do within this world, beyond the core 5 (well, 6) characters, and have some exciting  plans we want to work on.

I’ll still be posting new material, not necessarily comics…I’m thinking twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday) through January. I’ll be wrapping up this story by December 24, which will be comic #38. We’ve come pretty far, but I want to make sure I can take it farther. See you guys on the other side of January!

The Big 2-5

All right! We made it to 25 comics with only a few hiccups. I’m operating with no buffer right now, which I mean to change- life got in the way and the comic had to take a backseat to things like my sisters wedding, a cold, the election, and a bedroom remodel. But y’know, I’m encouraged to learn that even some highly respected pros operate without a buffer, and as this is more of an experiment than a stab at so-called professional cartoondom, I don’t feel too bad.

So what have we learned here? I considered dropping color because I’d be able to focus on linework and get the comics out faster, but I’ve gotten a lot of unsolicited feedback about how people are enjoying my color. So it stays. I have a pretty steady supply of visits to the site, and as such I feel obligated to meet even a self-imposed deadline. That’s great news. I’m feeling pretty free about the format and subject matter right now, and I kind of want to wander away from my five main characters for a while and explore the world I’m building. I’m still not sure how best to do that, so expect some discontinuity in the next couple of weeks.

Happy One-Week-a-Versary!

Well!

Let me share a little secret with you - I start a lot of projects and very few of them see Launch Day, let alone a sucessful first week. As a matter of fact, I’ve got a week and a half in the hopper right now, and I hope to make that even bigger this week! That’s how I know this project is going to stick- we’re still here!

That said, I’m trying to get a good sized buffer in front of me to keep that momentum going in spite of whatever life may throw at me. I’m going out of town from the 9th to the 13th- all those comics are done, but I want to make sure I come back to at least an extra week in the hopper so I don’t have to panic right after my trip.

So how do you like it so far? I know it’s hard to make a judgement on only three comics, and it’s hard not to want to just throw everything I’ve got up right now to get the feedback, but that’s a bad idea for the above reasons. Oh well, I’ll just have to learn to be patient. I’ve got a bunch of fun story ideas that’ll just have to wait for their time.

Have you seen the cute wallpapers yet? I’m taking a little break on creating new wallpapers while I get the hang of working on the strips during the week, but all the vector ones from the old website are there, and maybe also some you haven’t seen yet!

‘Til next time!

Hello world! (What happened to my SnoogleZoo?)

Hi everybody. As you can see, things have changed a little around here! We’re preparing for the launch of SZ as a webcomic starting Monday, September 22nd. So all your SnoogleZoo friends are still here, and they’re going to be easier to get to know!

Right now it’s a little chilly in here- all this grey is very un-snoogly. But we’re working on that. I want to be able to say that the design will be finished on launch day, but I’m not making any guarantees- our first priority is to get the comic going!

Anyway, for now just sit tight, and be here on Monday when we get started. We’re going to update on an MWF schedule, and all the cute wallpapers and character introductions will be back, too. See you then!
